OpenAI is introducing a new way for developers to build interactive applications directly inside ChatGPT. Users will now be able to access apps from Booking.com, Expedia, Spotify, Figma, Coursera, Zillow, and Canva. Alongside the apps, OpenAI is releasing a preview of the Apps SDK, a developer toolkit for building these new experiences.

“We want ChatGPT to be a great way for people to make progress, to be more productive, more inventive, to learn faster, to do whatever they’re trying to do in their lives better. Apps inside of ChatGPT will enable a new generation of apps that are interactive, adaptive, and personalized, that you can chat with.”

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI

🛠️ How Apps Work in ChatGPT: Unlike previous attempts like the GPT Store, these apps are integrated directly into ChatGPT conversations, allowing users to access third-party tools seamlessly.

  • Users can call apps by name in the chat, e.g., “Figma, turn this sketch into a workable diagram,” or “Coursera, can you teach me something about machine learning?”

  • Apps can render interactive UIs inside ChatGPT responses, including maps, playlists, and even videos.

  • If a user is already subscribed to a service, they can log in directly within ChatGPT to access premium features.

  • In the future, apps may also support monetization via ChatGPT’s Instant Checkout.

OpenAI built this system on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing apps to connect to external data sources, trigger actions, and display dynamic content in chat.

🔍 Discovering and Using Apps: ChatGPT suggests relevant apps when they could help.

  • Planning a party → Spotify playlist app surfaces

  • Looking for a home → Zillow map appears

Users can interact with apps naturally and adaptively within conversations. For instance, Zillow integration allows users to search for apartments, view an interactive map, and ask ChatGPT about each option in real time.

These apps are accessible to all logged-in ChatGPT users (outside the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK) on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. Apps are currently available in English in regions where the services operate.

🧩 Apps SDK for Developers: OpenAI is releasing a preview of the Apps SDK, an open standard built on MCP, allowing developers to:

  • Design app logic and interactive interface inside ChatGPT

  • Connect apps to backend services for subscriptions or premium features

  • Test apps using Developer Mode in ChatGPT

Later this year, developers will be able to:

  • Submit apps for review and publication

  • Access monetization tools, including Agentic Commerce Protocol for instant checkout

Figma is teaming up with Google to bring advanced AI features to its design software. The integration will add several Gemini models to Figma, complementing its existing AI app-building tools and addressing the “evolving needs” of product designers and their teams.

Here’s what you need to know:

🤖 Gemini Models in Figma: The partnership introduces multiple Gemini models into Figma’s toolset:

  • Gemini 2.5 Flash: integrated into image editing and AI image generation, allowing users to generate and refine images with prompts. Early tests show 50% faster latency for Figma’s “Make Image” feature.

  • Gemini 2.0 & Imagen 4: additional AI capabilities to support creative workflows and automation across design tasks.

Figma’s 13 million monthly active users will now be able to leverage these models for faster, more responsive design iterations.

⚡ Strategic Implications

  • The Figma-Google partnership is part of a broader trend of AI integration within existing platforms, as tech giants aim to embed AI in apps with large, established user bases.

  • Notably, Figma was recently included in OpenAI’s ChatGPT Apps launch, indicating the Gemini deal is not exclusive.

  • Google also announced Gemini Enterprise, a conversational AI platform allowing enterprise users to interact with documents, data, and applications, as well as build or deploy AI agents.

Professional services giant Deloitte announced a landmark enterprise deal with Anthropic the same day it was revealed the company would issue a refund for a government-contracted report containing inaccurate AI-generated content.

The announcement illustrates Deloitte’s commitment to AI, even as it grapples with the challenges of using AI responsibly.

Here’s the rundown:

📝 Refund for AI Hallucinations

  • The Australia Department of Employment and Workplace Relations commissioned a A$439,000 independent assurance review from Deloitte earlier this year.

  • The report included multiple errors, including citations to non-existent academic reports.

  • A corrected version was uploaded recently, and Deloitte will repay the final installment of its government contract.

  • The timing of the refund announcement coincides with Deloitte highlighting its increased AI adoption, an ironic juxtaposition noted by observers.

🚀 Deloitte–Anthropic AI Partnership: Deloitte plans to roll out Anthropic’s Claude chatbot to nearly 500,000 global employees. The partnership, first formed last year, will focus on:

  • Compliance products for regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, and public services.

  • AI agent “personas” representing different departments, including accountants and software developers.

“Deloitte is making this significant investment in Anthropic’s AI platform because our approach to responsible AI is very aligned, and together we can reshape how enterprises operate over the next decade. Claude continues to be a leading choice for many clients and our own AI transformation.”

Ranjit Bawa, Deloitte’s global technology and alliances leader

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it represents Anthropic’s largest enterprise deployment to date.

⚡ Broader AI Accuracy Challenges

Deloitte is not alone in struggling with AI hallucinations:

  • Chicago Sun-Times (May 2025): Published an AI-generated summer reading list with some fabricated book titles.

  • Amazon’s Q Business: Struggled with accuracy in its first year of AI productivity tools.

  • Anthropic’s Claude: Previously cited AI-generated references in a legal dispute, prompting an apology from the company’s legal team.
