⚡ The Neural Frontier’s weekly picks: 4 AI tools you should be using.
Earlier this week—at Google I/O, to be precise—the California-based tech giant released many updates to its Workspace and AI-related endeavors. One of these updates is its new “Help Me Write” feature for Gmail which creates entire email drafts based on user input. Think of this as its Smart Compose feature—but on steroids 💊.
All users need to do is start typing an email, then click the “Help Me Write” button. Then, the AI-powered tool will generate a draft—which users can easily fine-tune to their tastes. Evidently, this feature will save lots of time when drafting those routine emails such as thank-you notes, job applications, and meeting requests.
With OpenAI making numerous strides in the AI game, many have faulted Google for “lagging behind.” However, with the release of its new large language model, PaLM 2, the naysayers may finally be silenced.
The Pathways Language Model 2 is Google’s second iteration of PALM, which is set to rival OpenAI’s GPT-4, especially considering the failures of its initial version of Bard. With a focus on—as well as a deeper understanding of—mathematics, logic, and science, this is Google’s way of saying “Game on!” to the AI world.
Recently, the White House called thought leaders and CEOs in the AI world, as well as top administrators for a meeting to discuss the possible regulation and establishment of government oversight over AI tech.
According to a post-meeting statement, “The President and Vice President were clear that in order to realize the benefits that might come from advances in AI, it is imperative to mitigate both the current and potential risks AI poses to individuals, society, and national security.”
In essence, this meeting aimed to hold companies more accountable for the risks that large-scale AI integration poses and call for transparency between AI-centric companies and policymakers.
This is one for the AI deepfake buffs out there! Arguably of the world's largest AI-powered image generation software, Midjourney has generated much buzz since its release. With the release of v5.1, the AI-powered tool has become more powerful—especially from a beginner’s perspective.
Its algorithm updates allow for more creative control, as well as give improvement to sharpness, coherence, and prompt interpretation. This means you can create higher-quality images and stellar works of art (apparently, deepfakes count 🤔) with minimal effort.
🤔 Here’s what a Wes Anderson-directed LOTR would look like
On today’s episode of amusement from the Neural Frontier, we have an AI-generated LOTR trailer that has been keeping the internet abuzz. In the creator's words, “We hope you enjoy the Midjourney to Middle-Earth!”
What if Wes Anderson directed The Lord of the Rings? We asked the community which video they want to see next and Lord of the Rings took the cake… or should we say Elven bread. We hope you enjoy this Midjourney to Middle-Earth.
