OpenAI is working on a new ChatGPT search engine that could rival Google's search dominance.

🚀 Advanced Search Engine: The new search tool will combine the capabilities of a traditional search engine with generative AI like ChatGPT. It will provide users with answers sourced from the web while citing references like Wikipedia and blog posts. If a user asks ChatGPT how to change a doorknob, the engine could include diagrams for illustration.

🔍 Domain Name and Launch Plans: OpenAI has registered a new domain name, “search.chatgpt.com,” and acquired a security certificate, signaling that the search engine's launch is imminent. Although visiting the URL currently shows a "Not found" message, it briefly redirected to the official ChatGPT website.

📊 Features and Functionality: The ChatGPT search engine will blend AI-generated summaries with relevant web pages. This approach is similar to Perplexity AI, offering users both quick summaries and direct sources for in-depth information. This will enhance the overall search experience, providing a combination of AI-generated content and traditional search results.

🌐 Competitive Landscape: Google's Gemini and Perplexity AI are key competitors in the AI search space. While OpenAI has already enabled certain web search features for its paying ChatGPT users, this new tool would fully integrate search and AI capabilities. It will offer a comprehensive response format, displaying web results alongside an AI-generated summary.

Interestingly, the new search engine might open up additional revenue streams for OpenAI by incorporating ads into search results, creating an alternative to Google's lucrative search advertising business.

✈️ AI takes to the skies!

The U.S. Air Force took a historic step in military aviation when an AI-controlled F-16 fighter jet carried Secretary Frank Kendall on a landmark flight at Edwards Air Force Base. 

Here’s what makes this event crucial:

🚀 AI-Controlled Flight: An experimental F-16 fighter jet named "Vista," controlled entirely by AI, flew Kendall at speeds exceeding 550 mph and executed complex combat maneuvers with a human-piloted F-16 as its opponent. The AI-controlled Vista could loop and twist with precision, pushing Kendall’s body to five times the force of gravity.

🔍 Significance and Innovation: This AI flight marks a major milestone, highlighting the Air Force's confidence in AI technology. The Air Force plans to integrate an AI-enabled fleet of more than 1,000 unmanned aircraft by 2028. These jets could conduct autonomous operations, reducing human risk while increasing air dominance.

By deploying cost-effective, unmanned jets, the Air Force can sustain an advanced fleet without risking pilot lives. Although China also has AI capabilities, there is no evidence they have tested them outside of simulators.

This shift could significantly change air warfare. Vista’s operators acknowledged their role in shaping the future of unmanned aviation and recognized the necessity of AI to remain competitive. Secretary Kendall emphasized the urgency, saying, “We have to keep running. And we have to run fast.”
